I bought this item to refinish some French patio doors. I wanted something that could get into tight areas and was easy to handle. This sander works well. It is easy to control and does the job. It does heat up which I assume happens with all belt sanders. It gets so hot that I have to stop using it or put on gloves. Working in 90 degree heat doesn't help either. The belts are not available at HD, Walmart, or Lowes. They are available at Woodcraft stores here locally. I found them online at a cheaper price at Peachtree Woodworking Supply in Atlanta. The service was great from [...] and I have used the belts and they are of good quality. The belts are very easy to change and the alignment adjustment keeps them on track easily. I have not had a tracking issue. Once adjusted the tracking stays put. The front control knob is removable which allows even tighter sanding. I have been very satisfied with this sander and would recommend it. It has been a very useful addition to my tool chest.

This is the first belt sander I have purchased and it is just the one I needed. Woodworking is a hobby for me and this machine was just the right size and more importantly, the right price. Yes, it does get warm but even after 5 minuets of continuous running, it was not excessively warm. I purchased additional belts (Mirka) online. I also found some in assorted grits at Lowe's.

Bought this for light finishing of glue joints and edges of boards. The unit is very light and the rubberized hand grip area was very comfortable to use. Its weight for short durations is of no concern, but if you were to use for hours on end you will of gotten a very good work out. The ability to change to different grit belts was smooth and easy and I had no problems with it tracking off the rollers. I would recommend this to anyone for a nice small light use sander.

PROS: small and light weight
CONS: gets extremely hot (too hot to touch), not powerful, tracking needs constant adjustment, non-standard size belts (may be hard to find)
BOTTOM LINE: as you can see this is not a tool a professional would want to buy, but if you just need a belt sander for small work, then it may be ok

I purchased this sander 1 year ago and have used it twice to sand the edges of 3/4 inch Baltic Birch. The sander with the first use performed adequately although it did heat up quickly to the point that it was uncomfortable to grasp. On second use today, the sander again overheated after 10 minutes of use and then began to smoke, spark, lost speed and began to emit a grinding noise. I disassembled the unit and noted the brushes were fine. I reassembled it and the same problem arose. I suspect the motor coils are fried. This is a poorly designed sander. There is no fan to move the heat which stays in a confined space because of the small form factor. This should be equipped with a heat overload circuit. If you are planning on sanding balsa wood for a few minutes this will work. If you plan on sanding anything denser than balsa, save your money and buy a better belt sander.
